Good Morning “Voice of God Recognizers.” Today we are in 1 Samuel 3
”Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord: The word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him.“
1 Samuel 3:7 NIV
Samuel is young. When God speaks to Samuel here Samuel does not recognize His voice. Understandably for a young boy, he believes it’s Eli.
Students often ask me how they can know the voice of God. How they can determine His voice over that of the “evil one”, especially when the evil one masquerades as an angel of light. The evil one comes pretending to be good so it can be challenging to recognize the difference.
Sometimes the conversations I have go like this. “I believe God is telling me to…”.
“Ok”, I say, “why do you believe that?”
“Well because it just seems right,” the student says.
Remember Israel through Judges? Everyone did what they thought was right in their own eyes.
I usually follow up with a question such as, “How is your time with The Lord?”
“Oh, well I’ve been pretty busy, I really haven’t been in The Word much,” they respond.
“Prayer life?”
“Oh I really have not been praying much lately,” they say.
Understand this… we can recognize our parents voices across a loud crowded gym. We can recognize our best friend’s voice, our husband or wife’s voice in the darkness, even finish their sentences - because we spend TIME with them. How can we possibly expect to hear the voice of a God we don’t TRULY know?
Samuel was very young. He did not yet “know” God. We don’t have that excuse.
Jesus said in John 10:27 “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me…”
Are you a sheep?
Love you all! Dig in!
