Judges 21

Good Morning “Those Who See As God Sees.”  Today we wrap up Judges with chapter 21.

Chapter 21 puts an exclamation point on Israel’s decent.  The final verse of the chapter says it all…

”In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes.“
‭‭Judges‬ ‭21‬:‭25‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“Right in his own eyes”… according to what?  What is it that shaped their thinking?  Who decided what was right in their case?  In our case?

In this chapter we see the blind leading the blind. (Pun intended).  They gather to consider what they shall do regarding the tribe of Benjamin, who has no women to marry because the rest all made a vow not to give their daughters to them.  They gather… the same they that according to the last verse are all doing what is right in their own eyes.  Notice God is absent from their meetings here.  Their solution, the fruit of their discussions… kidnap women from Shiloh to become wives of the Benjamites.  Wait what?  This is your plan?

If ever there was an example of what happens when worldly, fleshly wisdom is all that is considered - the book of Judges is it.  We live in a world full of wisdom.  Largely our own.  The decline of morality in our society can be traced to choices made based on what we all thought was best - void of Godly consult.  Choices always come with consequences.

As followers of Jesus might we all choose to seek Him in all things!  Get to know Him through His Word - that every decision and choice might be tutored by Him.  If we were only familiar enough with Him and His ways that we could see people, the world, as He sees it.

Love you all!  Dig in and live.
