Good Morning “One Body”. Today we are in Judges 12.
Jephthah is still leading Israel, but civil war within the nation is imminent. Reminder - Israel is stuck in this cyclical pattern of seeking what their flesh wants, being oppressed by God to get their attention, then repenting that they might be saved. Anytime a people, a church body, or an individual start living by their flesh they push out the principles of Gods Word. Apart from a Godly perspective selfishness reigns and civil war knocks at the door.
Jephthah needed help as he waged war against the Ammonites, back in chapter 11. He asked Ephraim for it but they declined. God was already preparing to give Jephthah the victory when he made a rash vow and pledged his daughter.
With the victory won, we now see Ephraim back on the scene in chapter 12. ”Why did you go to fight the Ammonites without calling us to go with you? We’re going to burn down your house over your head.” Judges 12:1 NIV
Jephthah responds simply, I called - you didn’t come. It seems they want to now destroy Jephthah… but why? He called, they didn’t come! It seems now that the victory is won, they want the glory, the power, the spoils. They didn’t want to get involved when they didn’t know the outcome but now want to share in, or own the victory. Me, me, me… wait… what about me.
When we allow ourselves to be led by our flesh, rational Biblical arguments are out the window. They make no sense because we are blinded by emotion and selfishness. This kind of attitude has no place within The Body, the home, or the life of a Christian for that matter. We are ONE Body, united in Christ filled by His Holy Spirit to function together, belonging to each other - to accomplish His good work. (Romans 12:1-8, 1 Corinthians 12:12-27).
Satan wants to destroy that union, and he will do it from the inside out… by our own sin and selfishness.
Love you all! Dig in!
