Good Morning “Those Who Never Doubt The Lords Compassion.” Today we are in Judges 10.
This is gonna hurt me more than it hurts you. Have you ever thought that as a parent? I hope so, because with that thought comes compassion for the recipients of essential discipline.
Israel’s cycle of sin and rebellion, then crying out to The Lord for help continues. How many times does someone have to completely turn on us, before we want to totally write them off. As we dig through Judges I am not just struck by Israel’s continued rebellion, but by Gods mercy and faithfulness to forgive with true repentance.
Gideons self focused lifestyle produced Abimelech who rocked the nation of Israel. Will they ever learn? Will we? God always keeps His promises and is always gracious. This chapter covers 3 more cycles of rebellion, 3 more Judges to save them. Within them we get a single verse which speaks volumes to Gods love and compassion for His children.
”Then they got rid of the foreign gods among them and served the Lord. And he could bear Israel’s misery no longer.“ Judges 10:16 NIV
The idea that God was “bearing Israel’s misery” speaks to His struggling to allow it to continue. He takes no pleasure in our discipline. Yes, He’s God and He can handle anything, but don’t miss His heart here. His breaking heart. He could not bear it any longer.
Love you all! Dig in!
