Good Morning “Fighters.” Today we are in Judges 5.
As we read the words to Deborah’s song - soak up all she is saying. Pay attention to her rebuke. Led of God she has brought the victory. Why did God choose a woman Judge to lead, some have asked. Doesn’t that go against Gods design? Perhaps to expose even deeper the cowardice of many of Israel’s men. For many did nothing.
We’re not just reading the words to catchy worship song here, we’re reading the highlights of war. We get more information than we did in the last chapter. Who rose up for the battle and who passively, fearfully shuttered?
We too are in a battle. The evil one prowls around like a roaring lion looking for who he may devour. He wants to kill and destroy, and he does it by not just changing what we believe but by changing the way we think, the way we process, ultimately like Israel - who or what we worship.
When the fight comes to our doorstep will we be like Reuben searching our hearts, hanging back in the sheep pens? Or, like Gilead staying a great distance away, or perhaps like Dan remaining on his ships or Asher hiding out in the coves.
Maybe some will respond in the opposite manner. Maybe like Jael, we’ll take matters “into our own hands”. Maybe like Zebulun we’ll rise up to lead!
We reason that when the battle comes we’ll surely rise up! Well, “the battle” is already at our doorstep. Where do we stand? Where do you stand? As men do we passively sit back and let our ladies step up? Are we in the fight? Or have we found ourselves too busy, otherwise occupied, still searching our hearts? Who leads the “little things”? Who leads our ministries? Who leads in our homes, on our campuses? Surely we’ll stand when the “battle gets real”. Will we? Much of Israel didn’t. The time for heart searching has long passed.
Love you all! Dig in! Fight!
