Judges 4

Good Morning “Consistent”.  Today we are in Judges 4.

Raise your hand if you somehow act different when you come to church compared to how you act the rest of the time.  Raise your hand if you act different around your church friends, or church groups, than you do with your other friends.  Ok… now raise your hand if you somehow act different around the Pastor.  Do you speak different?  Watch your language?  Coarse joking?  How about what you wear?  How would we act if we got to hang all day with Jesus?

Likely many of us change a bit in churchy situations.  What we’re demonstrating is a small example of Israel’s pattern of rebellion.  They seem to remain obedient in the presence of the Judges.  But, when the Judge passes they are back to their old tricks.

”Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord, now that Ehud was dead.“ Judges‬ ‭4‬:‭1‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Luke 6:45 reminds us that “A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.”

We’re on our best behavior when we believe someone is watching, maybe even taking notes… but how do we act when no one is watching.  How are we when we believe the coast is clear?  Thats the true test of spiritual maturity.

Why do we seem to marvel
more at an incredible conversion testimony than we do a faithful consistent one?  Consistency demonstrated in faithful obedience is the challenge and the goal we should seek to attain.  After all, He is always with us!  We drag His Holy Spirit with us through all our sin.

Love you all!  Dig in!  Stay the course.
