Good Morning “Advancers of Gods Purpose By Faith.” Today we are in Joshua 3.
As we read of Israel’s rebellion and Gods raising up Judges we cannot help but see that even in their rebellion He is still fulfilling His purpose for Israel.
They have not driven out all of the former inhabitants of the land. They’ve married the Canaanite daughters and given their daughters in marriage to them. They joined them in worship to their false gods. God did not drive them out either. He could have, by hail, or hornets, or simply by thought. It was by His power that Israel had victory, and by His power they experience defeat.
In fact He left them there to test Israel. Why test them? Does God need to somehow discover where their hearts truly are at? Of course not. He knows us better than we know ourselves. Their testing was for them. Testing teaches us something about ourselves, it exposes our weak spots and gives us opportunity to repent and grow. Furthermore Israel’s testing, successes, and failures serve as example for all generations to come - including ours. Stop and think, we’re still learning from them today.
The Israelites needed rebuke because they had forsaken the Lord. On the other hand, they also needed to be preserved as a nation because God was raising up Messiah Jesus through their bloodline. All things worked together for God’s purpose. His plan was not affected by their disobedience nor their obedience. He’s that powerful.
He will accomplish His purpose in us too. Ask yourself: Do you want God’s purpose for your life to be advanced by His GRACE through your faithful obedience or by His REBUKE to spite your rebellion.
Love you all! Dig in.
