Joshua 22

Good Morning “Keeping Things Simple.”  Today we are in Joshua 22.

The progressive church has tried just about everything to coax people into church.  More lights, more smoke, more mirrors, more performance, worship that seems more like a concert, mock crucifixions, feel good messages meant to elevate the individual… all in the name of seeing people come to Jesus.  But are they?  Statistics say no.  Instead in the name of encouragement we have elevated ourselves to the level of God, and diminished Him to a genie in a lamp.  This morning, to my Instagram story, I reposted a “Pastor” asking the question “What if God worships us”.  Ummm…

“A good god would never…” “My god is…”, we elevate ourselves above The One True God making His character what we want it to be.  We believe we get to decide what He would and wouldn’t do, without an even basic knowledge of Scripture.  True fear of God is gone and as a result sin abounds everywhere.

When tempted in the desert by the evil one, Jesus responded quoting from Deuteronomy  ”Jesus answered, “It is written: “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on EVERY word that comes from the mouth of God.” Matthew‬ ‭4‬:‭4‬ ‭ In the face of temptation to consider His Own needs Jesus responds with that!

Don’t fall into the “I need” trap in regards to your worship.  “I need to be encouraged.”  “I need more contemporary worship.”  “I need, I need…”. Sounds “I” focused not He focused doesn’t it?  We’re dying on the vine trying to take care of our own needs while God promises to do just that if we but only seek Him first (Matt 6:33).

Given the state of our world, it appears what the church needs is conviction, not encouragement.  In this chapter we see some very basic instructions given to the nations that would settle on the East side of the Jordan.  These instructions were meant to keep them on track.

1) LOVE the Lord your God
2) WALK in His ways
3) KEEP His commandments
4) HOLD FAST to Him
5) SERVE Him with all your heart and soul.

Simply put, know The Word of God, live It and teach It!  Could it be that simple?  Could the secret truly lie in simply studying and living The Word?  Jesus thought so… but I mean, who was He?

Love you all!  Dig in!
