Good Morning “Faithfully Founded in God.” Today we are in Joshua 21.
We live in a world that teaches you can find everything you need within yourself! “Self Talk” is a popular new “movement”. It teaches us to focus on ourselves, and take our eyes off of God - unfortunately totally contradictory to Scripture. Among top googled self talk phrases:
“I’m proud of myself for…”
“I am confident in myself…”
“I am enough…”
“I am successful…”
“I am strong and capable…”
“I believe in myself…”
“I can get through anything…”
The list goes on and on.
Here’s the problem, The Word of God - says exactly the opposite.
The most reliable book in all of history (proven to be such by secular standards), The Holy Bible, written through men inspired of God, tells us:
- He will humble the proud James 4:6
- We can do nothing apart from Him. John 15:5
The fact is I can give you a totally contradictory verse from every statement on their list, but I challenge you to find them instead. It’s pretty easy. Simply change the statement to focus on Jesus or God instead of “I” and Google it. Siri is great at popping up verses.
If Satan can get you to look for all you need within yourself, He can destroy you. Why would I say that? Let’s be honest. We’re unreliable. We drop the ball. We are NOT strong in and of ourselves. Saying it to yourself repeatedly may get you to believe it but it doesn’t make you so! Soon enough we fail and am disappointed. There’s nothing worse for our self esteem than “believing” we’ve got it and then realizing we don’t!
In this chapter, God through Joshua continues to fulfill all that He has promised - all that we’ve previously studied.
”So the Lord gave Israel all the land he had sworn to give their ancestors, and they took possession of it and settled there. The Lord gave them rest on every side, just as he had sworn to their ancestors. Not one of their enemies withstood them; the Lord gave all their enemies into their hands. Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.“
Joshua 21:43-45 NIV
Him you absolutely CAN rely on! He IS STRONG! NEVER FAILS! He promises through Him you can get through ANYTHING! His character is on full display here with Israel! He is unchangeable (immutable), which means He’s the same with us. He is Someone you and put your TRUST in!
Love you all! Dig in!
