Good Morning “Lords Guidance Seekers.” Today we are in Joshua 9.
We live in a world full of deception, and lacking in integrity and honor. ”Many a man proclaims his own loyalty, But who can find a trustworthy man? A righteous man who walks in his integrity— How blessed are his sons after him.“ Proverbs 20:6-7
I believe there is much we can learn both from the Gibeonites deception and from Joshua’s resulting action. The Gibeonites having heard of The Lords power come with a deceptive plan.
Joshua and the Israelites inquire and investigate, but fall short of something even more important… ”The Israelites sampled their provisions but did not inquire of the Lord.“ Joshua 9:14
We must, in every situation great and small, go back to the one who promises to direct our path. Once again we are reminded, if we choose to go it alone, He will let us… but then we must also face the consequences. ”Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.“
Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV
Having been deceived, what now? Attack, kill, take their land? After all Joshua was deceived and God had promised the land to them. What is Gods expectation of Joshua? In our world, contracts are broken every day. Deception and lack of integrity abounds. So what are we to do? ”Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.“ Romans 12:17-18
We CANNOT base our actions or reactions on those of another! Joshua honors his treaty despite the fact it was gained by deception. We MUST live lives that glorify and honor God period! Remember, He owns it all, He brings the blessing, the victory and the increase. He IS the hand that feeds us! We dare not bite it!
