Good Morning “Overflowing Zealous Followers”. Today we are in Joshua 5.
Israel finds themselves across the Jordan. No one drowned, or even got wet! Where’s the battle? At least for now it seems the Lord has gone before them and their enemy melts in fear. Right now there’s another enemy that needs dealt with.
We’ve read of Israel’s wandering for 40 years, literally so that all that came out of Egypt would die. Remember, only Joshua and Caleb would be able to go into the promised land because they were the only ones with a good report after God sent the 12 spies into the land.
Maybe as you read you noticed something? There is no mention of the nation circumcising the boys that were born during those 40 years. Those who would wander until they died, even when they were at their best, appear to have harbored some rebellion in their hearts. Even during their times of obedience, they still held something back. They had a heart problem.
Now, before this new generation can move on in The Lords blessing - they must do what should have been done a long time ago. Secret sins, sins we harbor inside can be some of the most destructive, because actions overflow from our heart.
”…For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart. The good man brings out of his good treasure what is good; and the evil man brings out of his evil treasure what is evil.“ Matthew 12:34-35
Purposing to modify behavior may work for a moment or maybe longer, but eventually the attitude of the heart comes out. True change must start with your heart. The only thing capable of changing the heart is the Word of God taught by the Spirit of God!
