Good Morning “Soldiers on the Advantaged Team.” Today we are in Joshua 2.
As Joshua prepares to lead Israel into the “Promised Land”, he first sends in two spies to scout it out. Why only two? Likely Joshua remembers the reason for their wandering in the desert for 40 years. Remember when through Moses, God sent 12 spies to scout this very land? 10 returned with negative, corrupted reports and disheartened the people. 2 saw with faith and believed God could give them the victory as He said. Those 2 were Joshua and Caleb. (Numbers 13-14)
This time the spies get a first hand report from one of the inhabitants Rahab - the prostitute that hid them. Check it out…
”We have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to Sihon and Og, the two kings of the Amorites east of the Jordan, whom you completely destroyed. When we heard of it, our hearts melted in fear and everyone’s courage failed because of you, for the Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below.“ Joshua 2:10-11 NIV
We too are in a battle - daily! 1 Peter 5:8 reminds us to be alert, because our enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for who he may devour. His greatest desire is to destroy anything God is doing and crush and render useless those He loves and uses to do it. Thats us / you - believers!
What chance do we have against such a foe? The “Promised Land” was inhabited by a people more fortified, greater numbers and better equipped. But Israel had something they didn’t… God! As Rahab pointed out, her people already “melted in fear” because of His power.
Speaking of the evil forces in this world, and the attack that comes and will come, John says this:
”You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.“ 1 John 4:4 NIV
We are in the same position as we find the nation of Israel in this chapter. God is with us… rather, if you know Him, He is IN you! We need not be afraid because Satan already trembles in His presence. (James 2:19) One might say he “melts in fear”. You’re already on the winning team! ”Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you.”…
James 4:7-8 NIV
Love you all! Dig in!
