Good Morning “Meditators on the Word of God.” Today we begin Joshua with Joshua 1.
Moses has passed. Joshua has big shoes to fill. Not only must he lead the nation of Israel spiritually, but also militarily. He will be the commanding officer as they go into battle. Moses struggled at times to lead well, Aaron faltered with him - how can Joshua expect to be successful in what God created him for?
We know from His Word that God has BIG plans for us as well! (Jer. 29:11, Eph. 2:10) But, how can we make sure we are in step with Gods leading? How can we avoid detours, and stumbling blocks. How can we stay strong and courageous ourselves as we struggle through life trying to live for The Lord? Well… God encourages Joshua with a very simple charge that still applies to us today…
”Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.“ Joshua 1:8 NIV
Understand Gods definition of prosperity and success is not the wealth and fame definition of our world. If we can become all that God created us to be, and carry out the “good works” He created us for - THATS SUCCESS.
In the midst of it all there will be struggle - at times we may doubt and fear… so God continues the thought.
”Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 NIV
David, “A man after Gods own heart,” arrived at a similar conclusion “How does a young man keep his way pure, by living according to Your Word…” He continues the thought in Psalm 119:9-11.
Jesus and His followers that recorded Gods Word in the New Testament reiterated this idea. (Romans 12:1-2, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, Hebrews 4:12, 1 John 2:1-2…).
His Word is life! Dig in! He blessed us with it, don’t miss it.
Love you all!
