He is Risen!!!!
Good Morning “Jealous God Followers.” Today we are in Deuteronomy 32.
I often get asked how God can be sinless and yet be jealous. The confusion comes typically from several paramount passages.
Paul includes jealousy in his list of sinful acts. “The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissentions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like” Galatians 5:19–21.
Yet God Himself declares in the 2nd Commandment regarding not making or worshiping idols, “You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God” Exodus 20:5.
In this chapter, within the “Song of Moses”, we see not only that God is jealous of Israel but that He is going to make Israel jealous for Him. Furthermore, He’s going to use the Gentiles to do it.
“They have made Me jealous with what is not God; They have provoked Me to anger with their idols. So I will make them jealous with those who are not a people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation,…”
Deuteronomy 32:21 NASB1995
This principle is reiterated in Roman’s 11:11 as Paul clarifies with the church in Rome that God has NOT forgotten the Jews.
”I say then, they did not stumble so as to fall, did they? May it never be! But by their transgression salvation has come to the Gentiles, to make them jealous.“
Romans 11:11 NASB1995
Bottom line, like many things Satan gets ahold of and twists, “jealously” really comes in 2 forms. There is the jealousy that covets another’s possession’s or advantages - which is sinful. Then, there is Godly jealously which Paul proclaims to the church in Corinth ”For I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy; for I betrothed you to one husband, so that to Christ I might present you as a pure virgin.“ 2 Corinthians 11:2 NASB1995
Check it out: Jealousy is the proper response of a husband or wife whose trust has been violated through infidelity. Indeed, when an exclusive covenant relationship is dishonored, jealousy is the passionate zeal that fights to restore that holy union. The jealousy of God for His holy name and for the exclusive worship of His people is such.
His degree of love is unfathomable! He gave us Jesus, and by His death, burial and resurrection - we may have life! We are His bride! Oh that He does not need to be jealous… because we are fully committed to Him.
