Good Morning “Seekers of The Lords Understanding and Wisdom.” Today we are in Deuteronomy 29.
As we’ve studied Israel, their wandering and continued rebellion have you ever wondered why they had such short memories? Have you shook your head at the fact that God could demonstrate His faithfulness in such mighty ways, and almost overnight they return to their rebellion? Think of the 10 plagues in Egypt, The Passover, parting the Red Sea, water from a rock - twice, manna from heaven etc etc. Why didn’t they get it? Why don’t we? Check it out, look what God through Moses tells them as He gets ready to remind them of their covenant with Him:
“But to this day the Lord has not given you a mind that understands or eyes that see or ears that hear. Yet the Lord says, “During the forty years that I led you through the wilderness, your clothes did not wear out, nor did the sandals on your feet.“
Deuteronomy 29:4-5 NIV
40 years in the same sandals? Wait up… they didn’t notice? I don’t know about you, but I’m hard on shoes especially work boots. What about my kids as they were growing up… wow!
Understanding and wisdom comes from the Lord! Could it be they didn’t get it because in their pride they didn’t ask? Is the same true for us? As we live in our blessed nation do we too often credit our success; the roof over our heads, the food on the table and shoes on our feet to “our” hard work? “Our” gifts and talents, “our” resilience, “we” are self made men and women! Are we?
”For who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not? Already you have all you want! Already you have become rich!…”
1 Corinthians 4:7-8 NIV
Have we forgotten to acknowledge, thank and seek The Lord in the most basic of things? Have we made Him into a God that only moves in the biggest of needs and problems?
”If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.“
James 1:5 NIV
”The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.“
Deuteronomy 29:29 NIV
Love you all! Dig in! Remember to seek, ask and give credit to where credit is due! Praise Him!
