Deuteronomy 17

Good Morning “Royals.”  Today we are in Deuteronomy 17.

My son will likely not appreciate me sharing this, but when he was in middle school he would sometimes forget to hand his homework in.  His punishment… hand write a chapter of Scripture.  Wait… you used the Bible for punishment?  Well punishment or not, we knew we wanted to take every opportunity we could to get The Word of God in his heart, and we knew writing it would help do that.

The idea was never ours alone to claim.  As God is instructing Israel regarding putting a King in place check this out…

”When he takes the throne of his kingdom, he is to write for himself on a scroll a copy of this law, taken from that of the Levitical priests.”  Deuteronomy‬ ‭17‬:‭18‬ ‭NIV‬‬

The King was to write the Law (The Torah) on a scroll.  All of it!  A recent study has shown that we remember roughly 25% of what we hear, 50% of what we both see and hear, and 75% of what we interact with.  Perhaps that’s why teaching The Word of God to others is also a great way to learn.  Remember Gods command for Israel to write the Law on their door posts.  He wanted them to know It and remember it  also!

If you know Jesus, you are a member of a Royal Priesthood.  “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” (1 Peter 2:9).

There you have it… if it worked for  for Israel’s kings, it will work for us.  Let’s get writing.  Start with Genesis…  In all seriousness though, God understood that if Israel was going to be led by a King, that King needed to KNOW The Word!  We lead our families, we lead in our jobs, students hold leadership positions at school, they lead their friends spiritually… shouldn’t we too KNOW The Word!

Love you all!  Dig in!
