Deuteronomy 10

Good Morning “Many 2nd Chance Receivers.”  Today we are in Deuteronomy 10.

This chapter is a continuation of the thought or movement Moses wrapped up chapter 9 with.  He’s reminding them that during the 40 days Moses was on the mountain with God Israel turned to worshiping the golden calf.  Their worship involved all kinds of debauchery as well.  Moses is so frustrated upon returning that he destroys the tablets with the 10 commandments.  God returns and deals with their sin.

Some argue that Israel should not have been held accountable for their sin because they had not yet been given the 10 commandments.  Ha ha, they knew!  God had made His expectation clear as He spoke personally to them through the Pillar of Fire.  (Deuteronomy 10:12-13).

Deuteronomy is the “second giving of the Law” - to the Children of the Original recipients.  In the original, they promised to keep covenant with Yahweh Who had taken them from Egypt — in Exodus 19;  they received the 10 Commandments in 20 orally . . . And ratified the Covenant in 24.  It wasn’t till Chapter 32 that they crafted the Golden Calf and had their orgy.

Integrity is a disappearing thing in our world today.  We used to do business with a handshake.  If someone gave you their word you could count on it!  As we were raising our kids I used to tell them, “If you tell someone you are going to do something, you better do it - even if it means you drag yourself there spewing forth blood.”  That can be tough for a 4 year old to hear.  Ha ha… they were actually older than that I promise.   These days we have contracts.  Doesn’t really matter though - they are broken without thought.  Someone who does what they said they were going to, and shows up when they say is hard to find.  What about you?  How strong is your word?  “A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.“ Proverbs‬ ‭22‬:‭1‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Check it out though… God is not done with Israel as a nation.  He also doesn’t give up on Moses.  Back up to the mountain for round 2 of the 10 Commandments.  How many 2nd chances has He given you?  Me… I lost count a long time ago!

Love you all!  Dig in!
