Good Morning “Unlikely Tools in Process”. Today we are in Deuteronomy 7.
In the midst of this stark contrast between how God deals with evil nations and how He will reward Israel for her obedience, we find a couple more applications for us to grab on to.
“When the Lord your God brings you into the land you are entering to possess and drives out before you many nations…seven nations larger and stronger than you—“
Deuteronomy 7:1
Note first: Israel was not the biggest or strongest, or most equipped. In fact they were the opposite. However if obedient they were promised incredible victory and then all the blessing that comes with it! God chose them! He set His sights on them with purpose!
If you’ve accepted Jesus payment for your sins - know you were first drawn to the Son by the Father. (John 6:44) He chose you, with purpose! It’s only by His Grace you have been saved, His handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for good work which He prepared in advance for you to do. Summary (Ephesians 2:8-10).
Notice in both cases it’s not a matter of qualifications. Jesus qualifies us to work for the One True God, period! It’s all Jesus!
Secondly: Notice God is not going to give them the “Promised Land” all at once. It will take some time to push out the former inhabitants. God notes some good reasons for that.
Similarly our Sanctification (growing up in Christ) will continue until Jesus comes to get us. It will take some time to push out our old inhabitants as well. Salvation does not come with instant complete heart and behavioral change. In fact He tells us that… ”being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.“
Philippians 1:6 NIV
Israel had to trust the process, thereby building their trust in God. It’s the same for us. Humbly submit, resist the devil and his temptation and he will flee; draw near to God and He will draw near to you. (James 4:7-8)
Love you all! Dig in!
