Good Morning “Atoned For.” Today we are in Deuteronomy 5.
”Moses summoned all Israel and said: Hear, Israel, the decrees and laws I declare in your hearing today. Learn them and be sure to follow them.“ Deuteronomy 5:1
In today’s passage, Moses instructs Israel concerning God’s commands and exhorts them to listen and learn. Some things never change. As Moses challenged them, so we too are challenging you to read the Bible daily, know it and live by it!
These commandments served to define sin, and incite sin. For the first time obedience through faith could be measured by clearly defined standards.
These standards also served to incite sin causing Israel to realize their need for a Savior. The law could not save the nation of Israel, nor can it save us.
”For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.“
Romans 8:3-4 NIV
Where the Old Testament Law defined and incited sin, The New Testament finishes the story by describing the atonement for that sin through the blood of Jesus Christ shed on The Cross.
Might we recognize the depravity of our own sin, the desperate need we have for a Savior, and the incredible grace of God to provide one.
Salvation is just the beginning. To know Him and see Him known should be the goal of us each. As we live Scripture He is glorified and made known.
Love you all! Dig in!
