Good Morning “Redeemed”. Today we are in Numbers 30.
Careful ladies. As you read this chapter don’t let yourself get defensive. The feminists will surely have a hay day with this chapter, but don’t miss the awesomeness!
This chapter is giving us a picture of way more than just the fact that women are under the covering of their fathers, then their husbands. We cannot simply gloss over the fact she was the cherished bride, “for this reason a man will leave his father and mother.” She was to be under the cover of her father until marriage, then as the father walks her down the aisle and “gives her away” to her husband - her husband was to be her cover.
This chapter is also a picture or metaphor of the unique relationship we are offered through the blood of Jesus. Walk with me here… Israel was often referred to as the Virgin (Jeremiah 31) or as the wife (Hosea 2:19-20). We The Church, are called “The Bride of Christ”, (Roman’s 7:4),and potential followers are referred to in Matthew 25:1-13 as the 10 virgins. God is known as both Father and Husband.
Whenever a young girl or a wife committed herself to rash decision, the consequences of that could be averted by her father or husband - by releasing her from her vow. This passage isn’t about shaming females, it’s about demonstrating the incredible grace of our God. You’ll never get yourself into a “deal with the devil” that God cannot undo.
His grace through Jesus is sufficient to cancel all your sin - to remove all your spiritual debt. Who is excluded from this arrangement? Widows and divorcees. What is that piece representing? Well think of it like this, Jesus (our husband) will NEVER divorce us. He will NEVER leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). Satan will. Jesus will NEVER leave you widowed, because He is eternal. The only one that does not receive grace and canceled debt is the one still linked to Satan. The one without our True Husband Jesus. For the one rejecting the proposal, the Grace of God through Jesus - their sin and their debt remains on them!
Don’t miss it! He loves you and offers you life! Dig in!
