Good Morning “Beneficiaries of an Inheritance NO ONE Can Take From You.” Today we are in Numbers 18.
Are you a goal setter? What kind of life goals do you hold? Although falling quickly approximately 60% of Americans still claim to be Christian. That said I was curious if the “Life Goals” of Americans reflected what Scripture says we “should” be all about. So I Googled “Life Goals of Americans.”
1. Get healthy / lose weight. (Not sure what that says about us… ha ha)
2 - 5. Financial things: Make more, save more, buy a home, save for retirement etc
6. Travel
I could go on through the whole list. Although 60% claim Christ, nothing to do with faith, growth, or service to Him even made the top 10. Yet as Christians we say “He’s our #1”. We know that’s the right answer and will respond with that answer if asked what is most important to us. However when asked a the question a different way… such as what is your #1 goal in life… apparently few respond with God related spiritual things.
As Christians, through Jesus, we are grafted in. A Royal Priesthood brought out of darkness and into His marvelous light. (1 Peter 2:9) As a Royal Priesthood, if we are going to relate to the OT Nation of Israel, it would be to the Levites - The Royal Priesthood at the time.
So then, it’s appropriate to consider what their life goals were supposed to be.
“The Lord said to Aaron, “You will have no inheritance in their land, nor will you have any share among them; I am your share and your inheritance among the Israelites.”
Numbers 18:20 NIV
The Levites were to be solely 100% dependent on God and His provision for their lives currently and in the future. He was their great inheritance, and He is ours! Although owning property, having a secular job, even saving for retirement is in no way forbidden for us. The principle of keeping Jesus and our service to Him #1 is clearly reiterated in the New Testament. (Matthew Chapter 6)
Let’s go again. What are your life goals? If your answer isn’t something like: “Serve Jesus with my whole heart”, or “Glorify Jesus in all I do”, “Daily offer myself as a living sacrifice to Jesus” - maybe, just maybe we should pray for a changed heart. Love you all! Dig in!
