Good Morning “Not On Your Own”. Today we are in Numbers 14.
Man, you gotta shake your head at the Israelites here in Numbers 14 - at least some of them.
First, look at the 10 spies; all but Caleb and Joshua come back from Canaan spreading a bad report about the land. Despite Gods promise that He was going to give it to them, they stir the people to doubt with their report. “Our enemy is huge, strong, fortified - there is no way we can win”, they say.
Be careful arguing against Gods Word… he strikes them with a plague. “Of the men who went to explore the land, only Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh survived.” Numbers 14:38 NIV
God promises that none who grumbled against Him as a result of the spies bad report will inherit the land. When Moses reported that, as well as the deaths of the 10 spies to them - they mourned. “…Now we are ready to go up to the land the Lord promised. Surely we have sinned!” Numbers 14:40
Moses pleads with them “Why are you disobeying the Lord’s command? This will not succeed! Do not go up, because the Lord is not with you. You will be defeated by your enemies,”
Numbers 14:41-42 NIV
On their own, there is no way they can defeat them - the spies were right! Nevertheless they hatch a plan, they go and… they die without the Lord! See what I mean about shaking our heads at them?
Running ahead, or lagging behind the Lord gets us nowhere! It’s true… He is able to do even more than we could ever ask or imagine! When He says it that settles it. We must trust and go, when called upon to do so! By the same token we must be humble enough to NOT when He says no and is not leading! These guys were guilty of doubting when God said go, then going when He said NO! He would not be with them. It cost them their lives!
Don’t try to go it alone! (Proverbs 3:5-6). Love you all! Dig in!
