2 Chronicles 36

Good Morning “Mercy and Grace Recipients.”  Today we wrap up 2 Chronicles with chapter 36.

As we’ve read through 1 and 2 Chronicles we’ve seen Gods Mercy and Grace demonstrated to Judah again and again - yet they turned away.  We’ve read as God used their enemies to turn them back to Himself.  We’ve wondered why don’t they get it?  Yet we’ve looked in the mirror and asked the same of ourselves.

Today we read about the last series of evil kings.  Once more we’re reminded of Gods desire for reconciliation and the hard hearts of the people.

“The Lord, the God of their ancestors, sent word to them through his messengers again and again, because he had pity on his people and on his dwelling place. But they mocked God’s messengers, despised his words and scoffed at his prophets until the wrath of the Lord was aroused against his people and there was no remedy.” 2 Chronicles‬ ‭36‬:‭15-16‬

Oddly that passage seems to be describing the state of the US at the moment.  Have we really become a nation that calls good evil and evil good?  We find a warning against such nonsense in Isaiah 5:20 “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.”  Continue reading through 5:20-24, the similarities are chilling.  Then we read this.  “Therefore the Lord’s anger burns against his people;
his hand is raised and he strikes them down.” Isaiah 5:25

Tomorrow is Election Day here in the US.  One side stands proudly on the current trajectory of the US, on policy that directly contradicts The Word of God with - no apologies.   The other side’s policy stances are aligned with Scripture - at least much more so.  One side mocks Jesus and His worshipers, the other celebrates Jesus.  Our choice is much greater than the names on the ballot.  We have an opportunity to declare where we stand - it matters.

God doesn’t play.  He turned Judahs enemies on her and decimated her.  Those that were left we subject to 70 years of Babylonian captivity.  His purpose in discipline is always restoration.  Jeremiah 29: 4-14 summarizes the story.  How far will we fall before we turn back?

Love you all!  Dig in!
