Good Morning “Those With Your Hearts Right.” Today we are in 2 Chronicles 30.
Hezekiah is pumped about getting back to right worship of The One True God! He sends out a call to worship, not just to Judah but also to the idolatrous Northern Kingdom. How will they worship? By celebrating the Passover, and remembering Gods deliverance of all of Israel from Egyptian Bondage - as a result of their obedience.
There’s a problem though… the people, not even all of the priests are purified / consecrated unto The Lord. They’ve lived in sin so long… they seem to have forgotten what The Law requires for proper worship. It wasn’t even the Biblically prescribed time to observe Passover. Furthermore the nation was divided politically. Sound familiar? Sounds like the US right now.
So what is Hezekiah suggesting? It appears his attitude is what we’ve suggested at times… Get your heart right, return to The Lord, get your feet in the right place and God will sort out the refining details later (Philippians 1:6)
Hezekiah even prays for God to overlook their less than perfectly appropriate actions and see their hearts. “Although most of the many people who came from Ephraim, Manasseh, Issachar and Zebulun had not purified themselves, yet they ate the Passover, contrary to what was written. But Hezekiah prayed for them, saying, “May the Lord, who is good, pardon everyone who sets their heart on seeking God—the Lord, the God of their ancestors—even if they are not clean according to the rules of the sanctuary.” 2 Chronicles 30:18-19
Part of the awesomeness of this passage, is in Gods looking past all of those factors, and honoring and responding to their faith. It’s Ephesians 2:8-9 displayed right smack in the middle of the Old Testament. How many times have you heard, “In Jesus we now live under Grace.” True… but not just NOW. Gods Mercy and Grace is on full display in the Old Testament as well. He’s always been concerned with where our hearts are at and offered His Mercy and Grace to those who turn to Him (2 Chronicles 7:13-14, 2 Chronicles 16:9).
Oh that our hearts would cry out… “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24)
Love you all! Dig in!
