Good Morning “Reality Checkers.” Today we are in 2 Chronicles 28.
King Ahaz “did not do what was right in the eyes of The Lord.” He even sacrificed his own children for the sake of the gods he served.
As we’ve read through Kings and Chronicles we’ve seen repeated reminders of leaders who led Judah in accordance with Gods Word - and received blessing as a result. Unfortunately we’ve also been continually reminded of those who totally went the other way and received judgment.
Due to the wickedness of Ahaz, God moved the Assyrians, Edomites, Philistines, and Syrians to oppress Judah. Ahaz only ruled as king of Judah for 16 years - yet in such a short time he managed to spread sin far and wide throughout the kingdom.
What does this have to do with us? EVERYTHING! Remember God is still in control. Who we put in leadership, and what they stand for matters. No candidate is ever perfect. We are ALL sinners - period. We too as individuals, stumble and fall continually but the question is what do we purpose for? There is a big difference between purposing to honor God but failing, and straight up standing in opposition to Him and His Word from the start.
Ahaz never walked with God and yet blamed him for his failing nation. Similarly we see the same all around us. In our midst are those who want nothing to do with God. They neither honor Him nor obey Him despite the fact that He’s clearly revealed Himself to us all. Yet… they curse Him for their life struggles. How can there be expectation for blessing from the one they disobey and dishonor?
In times like this, Romans 1 is worthy of review. Romans 1 describes the 3 stage decent of man. See if you can figure out what stage we find ourselves in.
Reality check… God doesn’t bless nations or individuals who live contrary to His given Word. Scary. The beauty of His Grace and Mercy is it’s there for the receiving but we have to choose.
Love you all! Dig in!
