2 Chronicles 25

Good Morning “Easily Distracted.”  Today we are in 2 Chronicles 25.

Yesterday we talked about making our faith our own.  Making it REAL - pressing in to Him and His Word daily as the means to grow.  We all know the good we should do, the devotion to God we should have yet often we don’t do it (James 4:17).  Why?

Our flesh is in continual battle with  The Holy Spirit in us (Galatians 5:17).  We talk about this often because it seems half the pages of Scripture remind us of this fact.  Today is no exception.

Amaziah takes the throne of Judah after Joash’s death. Amaziah is “kinda” devoted to God.  He serves Him, though not wholeheartedly (25:2). He has the same problem we talked about yesterday.  God gives Amaziah a military victory against the Edomites, but then Amaziah turns and begins to worship the very gods of the people he just conquered.  If their gods were not strong enough to protect the Edomites then why would Amaziah want them?  Good question.  What’s with him?

We serve a lot of things other than God ourselves: Success, money, fame, popularity, sex, alcohol, drugs, selfishness, just to name a few.  Self is at the center of it all.  Why?  What’s with us?  It’s not like we don’t have countless examples of how insufficient and worthless those things are.   They bring no real joy, lasting benefit whatsoever but instead are momentary and fleeting.  We see the wake of destruction they leave all around us.  EMPTY.  MEANINGLESS! (Ecclesiastes)

Their power is all in the lie, perpetrated by the evil one, temping our flesh that already desires what is contrary to God (James 1:14).  The lie is as old as the fall it’s self - offering an alternative to Gods promises. “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman.” Genesis‬ ‭3‬:‭4‬ ‭

It’s truly a human dilemma.  How do we battle against desires that continually come from within?  I’m a simple guy, so I employ simple tactics.  More Jesus, more Scripture, more serving Him followed by experiencing more joy that comes from it.  Stay busy with Him. It’s tougher to fall into sin when you’re actively communing with and serving Jesus.  Consider how much of Scripture urges us to offer ourselves to His use, urges us to continually be in prayer and The Word of God.  Consider once more Psalm 119:9-11.

Love you all!  Dig in!  Get busy!
