Good Morning “Comforted by His Word.” Today we are in 2 Chronicles 23.
Athaliah is Queen with no threats to the throne, she had them all killed… or so she thought. But wait, a true heir to the throne - hidden by King Ahaziah’s own sister 7 years before. Jehoiada the priest reveals Joash to the people of Judah and declares him king. The people accept him and have evil Athaliah executed. Jehoiada and Joash link up to begin to destroy false worship and reform Judah. They tore down the temple of Baal and made a covenant to serve the One True God.
I’m telling you, you can’t make this stuff up!
Gods plan cannot be thwarted by evil… there is no real battle. He is always 10 (likely way more) steps ahead. We look at a world full of conspiracies, even some that don’t appear conspiracy but truth, and it’s easy to get anxious. God is still in control - no matter what or how it may seem. It’s why Isaiah can give us these words in Isaiah 8:12 “Do not call conspiracy all that this people calls conspiracy, and do not fear what they fear, nor be in dread”.
He is NOT surprised. Evil cannot play chess with Him… He doesn’t play games. Whatever arises be sure, God has already factored it in.
Athaliah thought she had a plan. She was on top of it - killing the royal family of Judah. She thought she was eliminating all future threats to her reign. But this chapter reveals how little vision she really had. God hid a son of David right under her nose for 7 years - thus protecting the line of Jesus. Praise God!
Love you all! Dig in!
