Good Morning “Thankful for Grace.” Today we are in 2 Chronicles 20.
Jehoshaphat did a lot of things right. But, like us all, at times he got it wrong. Near the end of his life he failed. “Later, Jehoshaphat king of Judah made an alliance with Ahaziah king of Israel, whose ways were wicked.” 2 Chronicles 20:35 NIV
We’ve seen this before. Actually we talked about it just yesterday. Apparently Jehoshaphat didn’t learn his lesson from his alliance with Ahab. “As a dog returns to its vomit, so fools repeat their folly.” Proverbs 26:11
What imagery God gives us here. Consider a life without the forgiveness and grace of Jesus described from the Priest Ezekiel.
“The one who sins is the one who will die. The child will not share the guilt of the parent, nor will the parent share the guilt of the child. The righteousness of the righteous will be credited to them, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against them. “But if a wicked person turns away from all the sins they have committed and keeps all my decrees and does what is just and right, that person will surely live; they will not die. None of the offenses they have committed will be remembered against them. Because of the righteous things they have done, they will live. Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign Lord. Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live? “But if a righteous person turns from their righteousness and commits sin and does the same detestable things the wicked person does, will they live? None of the righteous things that person has done will be remembered. Because of the unfaithfulness they are guilty of and because of the sins they have committed, they will die.” Ezekiel 18:20-24
Their love and faith was demonstrated by their obedience. Their salvation secure in their repentance.
We’ve spent much time talking about this recently. Jesus as The Perfect Sacrifice paid the price for all our sin (Hebrews 10:12). Our belief is demonstrated by receiving Him and His payment on The Cross (John 3:16). THAT belief is proved real in our repentance of our sin (Acts 2:38). Our love is demonstrated through our obedience (John 14:15). Our account is kept clean by continued confession and repentance when we fall (1 John 1:9, Acts 3:19) IT’S ALL BY HIS GRACE. (Ephesians 2:8-9)
Love you all! Dig in!
