Good Morning “Courageous For The Lord.” Today we are in 2 Chronicles 17.
Let’s quickly review where we’ve been the last few days. In chapter 14 we saw Asa’s heart - commanding the people to worship The One True God. Legislating obedience or worship never works. It’s not effective in changing hearts. In 15 we talked about the reality that we too, as Christians are commanded to “Prophecy” - speak Truth, applying it to situations within the lives of those in our midst. In short… teaching, making disciples. Yesterday as we talked about Asa’s downfall I challenged us to consider some of those “Big Promise” verses and consider the whole verse. Do we fit the caveat’s given. Do we love Him and are our hearts fully committed to Him? Ok… well then the passages which use love and commitment as a qualifier apply to us. Otherwise… not. Put all 3 of those days together and we get the application from today’s chapter.
Are you BOLDLY committed to proclaiming The Truth, and continuing the growth process by making disciples in this lost and hurting world? If so… He is with you! You don’t have to do it alone. However; that’s not popular in our world today. For a world that embraces their sinful lives, they DON’T want to hear It. The Truth wasn’t popular then either, but check out what Scripture says about Jehoshaphat:
“His heart was courageous in the ways of the Lord. And furthermore, he took the high places and the Asherim out of Judah.” 2 Chronicles 17:5-6 ESV
After courageously destroying the high places he demonstrated further courage in his sinful world. He gathered up a whole gob of chief officials and together with the Levites took the people to school.
“And they taught in Judah, having the Book of the Law of the Lord with them. They went about through all the cities of Judah and taught among the people.”
2 Chronicles 17:9 ESV
Courage is one thing that seems to be in short supply in our world. Courage is defined as “The ability to act in the face of fear, danger, or uncertainty, or to make good choices when faced with obstacles.” Our world needs hearts that are courageous in the ways of The Lord. Is that you?
Love you all! Dig in.
