Good Morning “Strength-end by The Lord.” Today we are in 2 Chronicles 16.
As we read about Asa’s downfall today - Did you catch it? That reassuring verse that we love to read and quote.
“For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him… “
2 Chronicles 16:9 NIV
Man I love that… He gives us strength. It’s kind of like Romans 8:28 “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” I LOVE that God works for everyone’s good! Or how about John 15:7 “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.” Literally God will give me whatever I ask?
Is that what those verses say? We love to add to, or concentrate on the parts of Scripture we like - so that we can make it say what we want… don’t we?
The key to John 15:7 is remaining in Him and His Words remaining in us. In doing so we become more conformed to the likeness of Jesus - more likeminded with The Father. We get on His page not He on ours. If we’re on the same page, then yes… Our desires are what He desires for us. Get it?
Romans 8:28 says He works in all things for the good of who? Those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose. There is a 2 part caveat there that is easy to overlook. Called according to His purpose means we’re Christian first of all called by Him, with purpose (John 6:44, Ephesians 2:8-10). If you’re received Jesus - that’s you. But do we love Him? Jesus said if we love Him we’ll obey His commands (John 14:15). Thats the evidence of love. The opposite then? No obedience, not real love.
Our world is full of temptation, trial, and the evil one who seeks to destroy us. Take another look at the passage I pulled out of today’s reading above. God promises strength… but to who? “…those whose hearts are fully committed to Him.”
We don’t get to apply it if we’re not living it. We don’t get to live like the world and still apply the promises made to those who love Him, who are fully committed to Him, who live out His Word.
Does the shoe fit? It’s an important question… He offers it all but wants all of our heart in exchange (Romans 12:1-2).
Love you all! Dig in!
