Good Morning “What is THAT - Wonderers”. Today we are in 2 Chronicles 9.
If you’re like me as you read today’s chapter - something sticks out. There it is… THAT number. I can hardly bring myself to type it -
I just don’t like it! The number of of man, the number of the beast - I’ll just quote it instead:
“This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. That number is 666.” Revelation 13:18 NIV
We’ve acknowledged Solomon’s humanity and weakness. What a “coincidence”… that’s how many talents of gold Solomon received each year. Our God is purposeful and intentional. The appearance of this number in His inspired Word is never coincidental. So why is it there? What does it have to do with end times prophecy?
I believe God is making a clear statement here. Solomon is acting in himself. All of his acquirements that make up his splendor… not what God intended. While the Lord promised to establish Solomon’s kingdom, and even make him wealthy, his success depended on Solomon’s seeking His Word and obeying it.
“The king, moreover, must not acquire great numbers of horses for himself or make the people return to Egypt to get more of them, for the Lord has told you, “You are not to go back that way again.” He must not take many wives, or his heart will be led astray. He must not accumulate large amounts of silver and gold.”
Deuteronomy 17:16-17 NIV
The acquisition of wives and wealth directly opposed God’s requirements for kings. God is not listing His blessings as much as He is listing the setup for downfall. This is foreshadowing.
When we attempt to “do it” on our own, we typically mess it up! We’ve got a lesson here in Solomon.
Love you all! Dig in!
