2 Chronicles 1

Good Morning “One Wish Ponderers.”  Today we are in 2 Chronicles 1.

Picture this scene… place yourself in Solomon’s shoes.  You are the one to succeed your father, the one who killed the giant with a stone, the one who was called “a man after Gods own heart” among others things - tough act to follow. Additionally you’re the next in The Line of Jesus.  God has promised to build both an earthly kingdom, and an Eternal Kingdom through you… No pressure though.  God shows up and asks what you want.  Ummmm… another job perhaps?  Maybe choose someone else Lord?  Verse 1 is clear - God was with Solomon… I’m guessing he still had doubts - you agree?

One wish… what do you ask for?  What does Solomon ask for?  You all know the story.  Instead of wealth, domination over his enemies, or that new lifted truck… he asks for wisdom to help him govern the people.  I think God had already begun to bless Solomon with wisdom - He knows what we need before we even ask (Matthew 6:8).

God typically doesn’t pop in and offer wish’s in that way.  That was fairly unique.  Instead He tells us how we too can achieve some of His greatest blessings: salvation, peace and yes wisdom are among them.  Proverbs 3:13-18, and Proverbs 8:11 among other passages remind us that wisdom is to be valued more than even great wealth.  We simply have to be obedient and pursue it.  How’s that?

At the risk of sounding Pastor cliche-ish - study His Word!  Read your Bible… that’s it.  Walk with me through a couple passages that lay it out simply.

“Assemble the people—men, women and children, and the foreigners residing in your towns—so they can listen and learn to fear the Lord your God and follow carefully all the words of this law. Their children, who do not know this law, must hear it and learn to fear the Lord your God as long as you live in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess.”Deuteronomy‬ ‭31‬:‭12‬-‭13‬ ‭NIV‬‬

They didn’t all have copies of Gods Word like we do.  They had to come together to hear it be read.  Learn to Fear (יָרֵא  yare’) God by studying His Word. Yes this is pants wetting fear.  Ok then what?

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” Proverbs‬ ‭9‬:‭10‬ ‭NIV‬‬

His Word = Fear of God = Beginning of Wisdom.

In a crazy world full of deception which seems lacking in common sense, and clarity - wisdom is in short supply.  How can that be, when according to The Center For Global Christianity - Christians make up 1/3 of the total population of the world.  That’s 2.6 Billion “Salts and Lights”. Could it be, perhaps, because only 8% of Christians even read His Word?  (Pew Research)

Let’s not be part of that statistic.
Love you all!  Dig in!
