Good Morning “Burden Shoulder-ers”. Today we are in 1 Chronicles 15.
If you don’t get it right the first time try try again. David, and Israel blew it the first time they attempted to bring back the Arc. When you fall down… Get back up again!
Somewhere during Saul’s reign the nation and the Levites apparently lost track of either the specifics of Gods commands concerning the transport of the Arc, or drifted away from being obedient. It appears during Saul’s reign they failed to pass on Gods expectations to the next generation. Had they all truly fallen that far away from The Word of The Lord?
It appears that way… check it out:
“It was because you, the Levites, did not bring it up the first time that the Lord our God broke out in anger against us. We did not inquire of him about how to do it in the prescribed way.””
1 Chronicles 15:13 NIV
“We did not inquire of Him about how to do it in the prescribed way.” This was one of the most important task of the Levites. If they forgot this… how much more had they forgotten.
Uzzah, simply following David’s orders, is the recipient of Gods wrath. In this we see a few applications:
- God has given His Word. We are expected to know it!
- Being naive or unaware is not an excuse.
- Even though Uzzah was following the Kings orders, he was killed. “Following orders”, is not an excuse either. According to Romans 13 we are to submit and obey our authorities… until they contradict The Word of God. He and His Word are our ULTIMATE authority - ALWAYS!
