Good Morning “Unlikely Candidates.” Today we are in 1 Chronicles 12.
Here we step back a bit and see how God grew David’s army and support prior to his ascending the throne. 1 Samuel 22 gives us a more descriptive picture of exactly who God used. Many men, who were outcasts, came to him when he was on the run from King Saul. “All those who were in distress or in debt or discontented gathered around him, and he became their commander. About four hundred men were with him.”
1 Samuel 22:2 NIV
David’s interview consisted of one question… Are you for me or against me? Are you in or are you out?
Kind of a simple question isn’t it. If you’re in… God takes control. It’s really that simple. Check out this amazing little nugget… “Then the Spirit came on Amasai, chief of the Thirty, and he said: “We are yours, David! We are with you, son of Jesse! Success, success to you, and success to those who help you, for your God will help you.” So David received them and made them leaders of his raiding bands.” 1 Chronicles 12:18 NIV
The original language in the start of that verse translates more like The Spirit clothed Himself with Amasai.
God isn’t measuring your qualifications the way the world does. Those who are over qualified typically seek credit for themselves, we’re supposed to be Glorifying Him. God is concerned with the heart. Are you for Him or against Him? The simplicity of that decision is becoming clearer by the moment in our country. We don’t get to say we’re in, we stand with God, and yet deny or stand against Biblical Truth.
It’s a simple question… All He needs to know is, are you in or are you out? If you’re in… the Holy Spirit will clothe Himself with you and accomplish great work through you.
“And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.”Acts 2:38-39 ESV
