Good Morning “Choice Makers - Consequence Receiver’s”. Today we are in 1 Chronicles 10.
Yesterday we talked a little about Saul and his demise. How Saul ended up King in the first place, and his subsequent sin choices that led to Gods judgment and his death.
Choices are a funny thing. We get to choose how we want to live and what we want to do… we don’t get to choose the consequences, how people view us, or how God deals with us as a result. We belong to The Family of God, and as such He has particular expectations for His children… as any earthly father does. He gave us His Son, that we might be reconciled to Him. He gave us His Word, and His Holy Spirit to teach us from it. He’s done all the hard work! He just expects us to learn It and live by It. (1 Peter 1:15-17) Not too much to ask (Romans 12:1-2)
What happened to the once anointed King of Israel - Saul? Simple… he wandered away from The Word of The Lord, and ultimately sunk so far as to turn to mediums… even a witch. It cost him his life, but what’s more the life of his sons and his household.
Ultimately he was replaced by “the man after Gods own heart” who DID “get it”. Consider David’s Psalm 1:1-2 ““Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.” Psalms 1:1-2 NIV
Or what about Jesus Words connecting the dots between our living The Word and our Love for Jesus and Gods Love for us. “Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.” John 14:23 NIV
Jesus isn’t saying obedience saves you - Ephesians 2:8-9 shoots down that “by works” concept. But, what He is saying is our obedience or lack there of says much about our love for Him. It’s been said - our good works don’t save us but they do demonstrate we’re saved.
The last verse in this chapter sums it all up. “Saul died because he was unfaithful to the Lord; he did not keep the word of the Lord and even consulted a medium for guidance, and did not inquire of the Lord. So the Lord put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse.”
1 Chronicles 10:13-14 NIV
Love you all! Dig in! Learn It and live It - It’s all an amazing gift!
