Good Morning “Truly Transformed.” Today we are in 2 Kings 23.
Once having read The Word of God Josiah “got it”! He understood clearly what needed to be done. All Pagan worship, idols, symbols, places, priests who helped… all destroyed. Josiah understood that to turn away from evil and turn wholly to God required totally destroying those elements (James 4:7-8). He renews The Covenant with the Lord, “Then all the people pledged themselves to The Covenant.”
Awesome! Judah is back on track… right? Or are they? Are the people truly committed? Or are they simply sitting / standing in The Temple nodding their heads in agreement, while their hearts are still dark? We don’t have to read any further than this chapter to find the answer.
Josiah is killed and the people of the land take his son Johoahaz and anoint him and make him king of Judah. And… ““He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, just as his predecessors had done.”
2 Kings 23:32 NIV.
What??? Come on! Does this chapter leave you frustrated? Me too! We would do well to let it marinate. Don’t discount it and move on so quickly. What will it take for Israel and Judah? How much suffering, how much evil must Gods people endure before they come to their senses and change their hearts? When will the people realize their flesh is the problem, embrace The Word of God, and allow it to change them from the inside out? Thats exactly what it did in Josiah.
“… there is nothing new under the sun.” Ecclesiastes 1:9 The sinful nature of fallen man is constant. Is this passage describing us? It’s a fair question. Before God we each individually must give an account.
Love you all! Dig in!
