Good Morning “Shaped by Gods Word.” Today we are in 2 Kings 22.
Josiah becomes King at 8 years old - he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, and followed completely the ways of David (Vs 2). In his 18th year of reign he begins Temple renovations. You see The Temple was once again in a shambles after years of homologated idol worship within. In the process The Book of Law is found.
Josiah had it read and immediately falls into mourning. He was humble, convicted and repentant for Judah. He learned God was angry with them because Judah had turned from God and “proper worship” of Him according to His Word. He sends his people to ask the Prophetess of God what He is going to do with them. She gives them the bad news. God will bring disaster on Judah, but because Josiah was humble and responded the way he did, he would be taken home before the disaster. He would not have to experience it.
Our world today isn’t much different than Judah. Many have tried to make God what they want Him to be. We’ve drifted from “True and Proper” worship of The One and Only God. As a nation / world we have pieced and parted the Bible, blending it with our own fleshly worship - ignoring parts we didn’t like and twisting, embracing and elevating parts we did. We often fail to adhere to the whole counsel of God. As individuals we may have not been the direct perpetrator, but in some measure we have all stood by and allowed it (Matthew 5:13). This isn’t a new thing. Paul understood this was a problem even in the early church (Acts 20:27).
How do we fix it? It’s tough to live by what we don’t know. Oh that we called by His name (Christians) would pick up our Bibles once again, dust them off, and read them. That HIS WORD, would be the standard, the guide for our worship instead of societies “appropriateness and feeling’s”. Oh that our response would be that of Josiah’s, that God might choose mercy and grace and do it through us. Perhaps if we too were not so proud, but instead humbly on our faces - our world would look different (2 Chronicles 7:14).
Love you all! Dig in! We have to know IT if we are going to live by IT.
