Good Morning “Simply Trusting God.” Today we’re in 2 Kings 20.
King Hezekiah of Judah is sick. His health is failing. Isaiah brings a Word from The Lord. This is it, he will die. While on his death bed, Hezekiah prays to God to extend his life. Isaiah comes to tell Hezekiah his life would be extended 15 years. The second part of the chapter documents how Hezekiah showed off all the treasures of Jerusalem to a Babylonian envoy. Isaiah, by the Spirit of God, prophesied that one day, all the precious things in Jerusalem would be carried away captive to Babylon.
So many questions in this chapter. Did Hezekiah’s prayer change Gods mind and plan? Umm - God is UNCHANGEABLE / immutable (fancy theological term). THAT we KNOW is True. Was Gods plan always to show Hezekiah to trust? And what about moving the shadow… did God simply affect the physics of the shadow itself or move the sun which is 333,000 times heavier than the earth. Either are no problem for The Creator of it ALL.
In Hezekiah’s 15 following years:
- Manasseh, Israel’s most wickedly idolatrous king, was born.
- Hezekiah entertains the Babylonians. They go back home to tell of the great riches stored in Jerusalem.
- Isaiah prophecies that the day will come when it will all be carried off. Even some of Hezekiah’s decedents will be taken to serve the kingdom of Babylon.
Did these things happen because Hezekiah pled for his life instead of accepting Gods initial Word?
Remember, God works in, around and through our doubts, our sin, our prayers. But He is ALWAYS sovereign (in control). He does NOT contradict Himself or His Word.
How do all the pieces fit together… hmmmm? Perhaps standing with our mouths open in awe of His incredible power is enough. Perhaps THAT’S the point! Trust, Worship, Praise Him and Give Him Glory! He’s Worthy!
Love you all! Dig in!
