Good Morning “Reminded Gods Got It”. Today we are in 2 Kings 19.
We ended the chapter yesterday with the King of Assyria, through his commander, mocking The Lord and Hezekiah in an effort to win the nations allegiance. Echos of our current presidential race doesn’t it? The story doesn’t end in chapter 18 though.
In the face of what seems like insurmountable odds, Hezekiah has a decision to make. Will he focus on the circumstances at hand, and surrender? Or, will he continue to trust in The One True God - that has repeatedly proven Himself Faithful. God doesn’t care if the odds appear against Him! There is no real battle!
Hezekiah went to Isaiah the prophet for council. A great reminder for us when we find ourselves tempted to doubt. “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” James 1:5
Isaiah prophetically tells Hezekiah that God will save the city and humble the king of Assyria for mocking the “Holy One of Israel.”
In typical God fashion… He does it without even rallying an opposing army. He simply sends angel into the Assyrian camp. The angel kills 185,000 Assyrian soldiers. Bodies everywhere. Talk about taking the wind out of their sails. Their humbled king returns to Ninevah, where he is assassinated by his sons while worshiping in a pagan temple. Threat gone.
How easily we get twisted up when we face the difficult circumstances of life. We forget that He’s in control of it ALL! Yes ALL! The question ISN’T does He have the power. The question IS am I aligned with His sovereign will. Have I positioned myself for His protection, and blessing. Or have I in disobedient rebellion created a need for Him to cause me to turn back to Him? (Hebrews 12:10-11, Revelation 3:19)
Love you all! Dig in!
