2 Kings 15

Good Morning “Measured With The Appropriate Stick.”  Today we are in 2 Kings 15.

This chapter is a list of kings who reigned over Judah and Israel. The text moves through several decades very quickly. The kings of Judah highlighted in this chapter are Azariah, also known as Uzziah, and Jotham. The kings of Israel highlighted in 2 Kings 15 are Zechariah, Shallum, Menahem, Pekahiah, and Pekah.

The Hebrew Nation is still divided - Israel and Judah.  Have you found yourself nauseated at Israel yet?  It seems every King does evil in the eyes of The Lord.  As a result their reign is very short.  Israel runs through 5 kings in the time Judah has 2.  Hang on though, before we put Judah on a pedestal, take note; neither king removed the high places and thus Judah continued to make sacrifices to false gods there.  As a result both were afflicted.  One by terrorism, the other leprosy.

But, Judah was sooo much better than Israel.  That may appear to be true, but better than the next guy is not the stick by which Judah was measured - nor is it the stick by which we are measured.  The benchmark is perfection.  Zero sin!  That’s the expectation, and that’s the bar that’s been set by Jesus.  If we were perfect, we wouldn’t need the Blood of Jesus.  However, we aren’t.  No one is. (Romans 3:23)

Gods expectation… the benchmark to meet in order to gain access to Heaven… is perfection.  Holiness, Righteousness, and it can only be achieved by receiving the payment Jesus made on The Cross for our sins.  Anything else… well, it just doesn’t measure up (John 14:6, Isaiah 64:6)

So, after I receive Jesus I’m good?  My sins are all forgiven so I can go about my life living however I please?  Absolutely not!  God called us to Salvation with the expectation that we grow up and become like Jesus, so that others may come to Jesus also (Roman’s 8:29, Matthew 5:48). That’s a reasonable expectation (Roman’s 12.1-2)

The way we live MATTERS (Matthew 5:16).

“As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” 1 Peter‬ ‭1‬:‭14‬-‭16‬ ‭NIV‬‬  With the Holy Spirit in us it is now possible (Romans 6:18).

Love you all!  Dig in!  Check out all the other noted passages too.
