2 Kings 13

Good Morning “Those Who Desire A Real Relationship.”  Today we are in 2 Kings 13.

When Joash had been King in Judah 23 years, Jehoahaz becomes king of Israel.  We left Joash yesterday faithfully restoring the Temple as God provided means.  On the contrary…

Jehoahaz does evil in the eyes of The Lord.  In fact he continues all of the evil worship that Jeroboam had instituted and thus continues to lead Israel astray.  Even the Asherah Pole remained.

This is no surprise.  Jeroboam led the people in a type of false worship that fed their flesh.  We talked about how easily we embrace a false worship system that promises us what our flesh already wants.  We see it in gross distortions of true Christianity today.

What is surprising in this passage is that Jehoahaz cry’s out to The Lord.  I’ve made note before - statistically speaking even a large % of atheists pray to God.  He is written on our hearts (Romans 1-2) we all know who to cry to when we’re suffering.  Even more surprising is that God answers Him and brings relief to Israel’s oppression.  He sends them a “savior”.  A foreshadowing of The Savior to come.  Why?  Not because of their obedience for sure!  (Romans 5:8) No, it’s because of His heart for His children.  If you continue reading  you’ll notice - Israel did NOT turn back to God.  No, even in their blessed relief they continue to worship evil.

Jehoahaz and Israel cried out for relief from circumstances, not for relationship with God.  There is an important gut check here.  In our suffering as individuals, in our disgust as a nation, do we cry out for restored, deeper relationship with our Savior… or do we simply cry out for relief from circumstances… circumstances where He, in Reality & in Mercy and Grace, has jerked-us-up-short attempting to bring us to repentance?

Love you all!  Dig in!
