Good Morning “Thankful for Jehosheba”. Today we are in 2 Kings 11.
As we read today’s chapter we see the evil queen Athaliah on a murderous rampage after seeing her son dead. Although all of the brutality may take us back a bit, we might have a tendency to shrug this chapter off. What’s any of this have to do with us? Crazy murderous queen goes on a terror to destroy all of her own family, but Aunt Jehosheba hides and protects baby Joash. Priest Jehoiada leads a revolt, dethrones and then kills the murderous queen, and installs 7 year old Joash as king. Great story… what’s the significance for us?
The Bible is one story… about what? Do you remember? It’s the story of Jesus, and the offered redemption of man through His shed Blood on The Cross. Yeah… so…?
So… Athaliah was one baby murder away from snuffing out the line of David - the line of Jesus. She was The Grinch attempting to steal Christmas, not the commercialized Christmas celebration its self - but the birth of The Savior Jesus!
Whats this chapter have to do with us? EVERYTHING! God uses Aunt Jehosheba to preserve The Line of Judah, The Line of David, The Line of Jesus!
In her obedience, and disregard for her own well being, God used Her for BIG stuff! He does the same with us. All of mankind in turn benefits from her act. Wow! What might God use you for? Make yourself available and find out (Romans 12:1-2).
While in England D.L. Moody heard evangelist Henry Varley say, “The world has yet to see what God can do through a man who is totally yielded to Him.” Moody was captivated by these words and resolved, “By the Grace of God, I will be that man!” (2 Chronicles 16:9)
Me too! Love you all! Dig in!
