Good Morning “Ruled By Those God Establishes.” Today we are in 2 Kings 9.
Romans 13 reminds us that it is God that establishes EVERY authority. And… then He moves the king to act, for His good purpose. “The king’s heart is like channels of water in the hand of the Lord; He turns it wherever He wishes.” Proverbs 21:1
It’s easy to understand why God would bless His people with “good” faithful kings but why evil kings?
Remember God uses sinful man because sinful people are the ONLY people. We’ve all sinned (Rom 3:23) so, that’s all He has to work with. When His people collectively turn their hearts away from Him - He must turn them back. How do you get a nation of people to turn and look heavenward once more? Shine a light on their sin, show them a reflection of themselves by placing “one of them” in leadership. It’s like looking in a mirror.
Back in the day, we used to hear stories of parents disciplining their children with the very sin they committed. For instance, kid gets caught chewing tobacco in the closet, dad locks them in and tells them they can’t come out until they’ve chewed it all.
When the people’s hearts rebel against Gods righteousness, He gives them what they want… evil and a lot of it. What is the lesson here? We like to dance along the edge taking a taste of sin as we choose, but it doesn’t work like that! As we’ve seen recently, the end of sin is death! Horrific, sinful, spiritual death.
As I write this we find ourselves in an election year. We all desire “good” leadership. But what is our definition of “good”? Do we
truly want a President that loves and is fully devoted to The Lord, or one that just “gives us the goodies”? If we’re honest don’t we simply want a leader who will allow / enable us to continue to live what our flesh desires? Who caters best to what I want?
Perhaps the first step in restoring our country is first wholly returning to The Lord ourselves. In fact - that’s Biblical. “… if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV
Love you all! Dig in!
