1 Kings 19

Good Morning “Leavers of Your Old Life.”  Today we are in 1 Kings 19.

Elijah is wore out!  He’s been hard at it for some time.  Gods not done with Israel yet, so… who will continue the work?  What comes as a surprise to Elisha (not to be confused with Elijah) was no surprise to God.

Elisha was out doing what Elisha did - plowing his father’s field.  Much like us when we receive The Call of God, he was simply going about His business.  When God calls we’ve got a decision to make.  Follow and live in His will or not.  Although physical safety is never promised, being / living in the will of God is always the safest place to be - eternally speaking.

I love what Elisha did here!  He sacrifices his oxen unto The Lord and used his plow equipment for the fire.  Why?  First to honor The Lord, but secondly so he had NO way back to his old life if things got tough.  The children’s song “I have decided to follow Jesus” comes to mind.  “No turning back, no turning back.”

“In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭6‬:‭11‬ ‭NIV‬‬

If we are truly “dead to sin” there is no way back to it.

“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭2‬:‭20‬ ‭NIV‬‬

In Jesus, our old life is gone and new life in Him is ahead.  We must put to off our old ways our old self.   No turning back!  Why would we want to hold on to our old life in the flesh which brought death?

Love you all!  Dig in!
