1 Kings 18

Good Morning “Those Who Stand and Live Differently.”  Today we are in 1 Kings 18.

Everyone knows this story!  I love it!  There is a drought in the land.  Ahab and Jezebel are intent on killing all of the Prophets of God.  In the midst of it all God tells Elijah to go to Ahab.  Suicide right?  Even Obadiah thinks so, as Elijah tells him to go tell Ahab he’s here.

Elijah presents a challenge to the “prophets” of Baal and Ahab, challenging them on Mount Carmel.  It’s AWESOME!  You’ll have to check it out if you haven’t yet!

As you read or review consider this, it’s quite common for the world to blame its problems on God’s people when their pagan ways net them nothing!  “It’s gotta be the fault of those Christian’s pushing their radical agenda on us.”  In reality, it’s the sinfulness and wickedness of man that destroys cultures.  In short it’s the turning away from God and chasing after false gods - even self that is to blame.

Apart from the governing of our Holy God in our lives we are destined for failure.  Godless nations sink into depravity and ultimate fail.  Our Founding Fathers understood this principle.  Check out the words of John Adams - Signer of The Declaration of Independence.  “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”  Apart from God there is no adherence to even the basic moral principles we recognize.

The same is true for the individual.  Apart from The Holy God governing our lives, and our humble submission to Him, we are destined for ultimate destruction.

I’m reminded once again of Galatians 6:8
“Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.”

Love you all!  Dig in!
