Good Morning “Receivers of Miraculous Blessing.” Today we are in 1 Kings 17.
Because of Israel’s sin, Elijah has a message from The Lord. No rain, for a few years. Famine in the land. Elijah was not to worry though, God promised to take care of him. He’ll drink from the brook and Ravens will feed him. What? Come on! Imagine the faith required of Elijah. So often our faith is limited by our understanding of how God might bless. If we can’t see a way, our faith is absent. (That’s actually not faith at all.) “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1 NIV
This supernatural story doesn’t end there. When the brook dried up and there was no water to drink… no worries! God had new instructions. “Go at once to Zarephath in the region of Sidon and stay there. I have directed a widow there to supply you with food “ 1 Kings 17:9 NIV.
In order to grasp the gravity of this command of faith, understand this… The Lord is telling Elijah to go into a Gentile land intent on worshiping Baal, and to receive provision from a poor widow, who would also be a Baal worshiper. Why would she help the man of God? If I was going to come up with a plan to find food it wouldn’t be like this. How about you? He’s God, we’re not! His ways are not our ways and He is not limited!
Here, one of Baal’s subjects will learn to trust in the Lord’s Word, and she will find that the Lord will sustain her, even though Baal has left her hopeless and on the verge of death. The Lord will press her into service for the benefit of His prophet, yet in the process, He will give her far more than He demands of her. In the process she learns His Grace is for all who repent and believe.
Just because we can’t see how, doesn’t mean that God won’t or can’t!
Love you all! Dig in!
