2 Samuel 9

Good Morning “Hopeless On Our Own.” Today we are in 2 Samuel 9.

Politicians often make empty promises.  Promises they NEVER tend to keep, have no power to bring about, or flip flop in later once they’ve gained approval.  David is no politician.  He’s a man after Gods own heart and a picture of the One to come.  He made Jonathan a promise and he intends on keeping it.

Mephibosheth was facing a life full of struggle, hopelessness apart from David’s honoring his promise to Jonathan, and he knows it.  Apart from the gift of David’s hand Meohibosheth had nothing.  The truth is, through David he had everything he would ever need.

Are you picking up on the parallel?  We are spiritual Mephibosheth’s.  Apart from Christ we really have nothing!  It all comes by Him, and through Him!

“For who sees anything different in you? What do you have that you did not receive? If then you received it, why do you boast as if you did not receive it?” 1 Corinthians 4:7

What ought to be our posture - our response?  Perhaps Mephibosheths words should be our words:
“…What is your servant, that you should notice a dead dog like me?” 2 Samuel‬ ‭9‬:‭8‬ ‭NIV‬‬

David asked the question himself: “what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭8‬:‭4‬ ‭NIV

We are deserving of nothing, let alone salvation and eternal life through Jesus.

Check out Romans 5:6-10 to see how Paul puts it.

Love you all!  Dig in!
