Good Morning “Those With Good Intentions.” Today we are in 2 Samuel 7.
As king, David is now enjoying all of the grandeur that comes with the office… including a grand house made of cedar. He reasons in his heart… How can I live here when the ARK of God resides in a tent. The place where God met with them, “The Lords House” was a tent. This didn’t sit well with David and he had the power to change it… or so he thought.
Great intentions… but not of God, at least not for David. The reason will come later. Check out how God so gently corrects David, reminding Him that all He ever asked of Israel was the tent. Through His gentle lesson, God outlines what we know as the Davidic Covenant.
Oh a King will come… He will reign forever, in a temple not made with human hands at all! He will come from David’s line. We’ve read prophecy, we’ve learned about The Promise. Now God is reminding David just how key he is to the whole thing.
As Christians we often ask, “What can I do to honor God?” “How can I please Him more?” “What can I bring Him?” The implication is that we have something to offer… something He needs. He needs nothing. Because of His mercy (Jesus) call it’s reasonable to expect we simply offer our lives, as daily sacrifices, Holy pure and pleasing to Him. Humbly submitted to His lead (Romans 12:1). The closer we stick with Him, the more we press in, the more of His will we can come to understand. Perhaps in our eagerness to “Help Him”, or “Bless Him”, we miss the bigger picture.
Love you all! Dig in!
