2 Samuel 3

Good Morning “Receivers of Grace Despite Our Sin.”  Today we are in 2 Samuel 3.

David’s kingdom is growing, Saul’s is shrinking.  Today’s chapter reads like an election year presidential race.  Abner and David are both plotting, jockeying for favor and position.  No recording of David seeking God here.  Neither Abner for that matter.

God’s Grace is just that, Grace! It does not always wait for our obedience.  If it was tied to our perfect obedience then it would not be unmerited favor.  As we read we cannot help but notice God is blessing David with sons, from his multiple wives.  Do not take this as Gods endorsement of those wives, but understand it as a part of Gods plan to instill David solidly as King over Israel.  Like we have seen before, Gods plan is not derailed by our sin.  Consequences of these sins for David are delayed for the moment, but they are coming.

Observe Abner as well.  He’s willing to do just about whatever he needs to do to gain position and popularity.  His series of political moves here have nothing to do with anything but self preservation. He’s more concerned with his acceptation and protection than either kingdom or side of the kingdom at this point.

We would do well to learn how NOT to be from both of these examples in this chapter.  With David’s desire for female companionship here - it’s easy to see how he gets to the point of falling into sin with Bathsheba.  When our sin struggle is obvious in one area or another - oh that we would take it to God immediately as opposed to feeding it in the shadows.

“Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.” Hebrews‬ ‭4‬:‭13‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Rejoice because we are blessed, but don’t ever let that be confirmation to remain the way we are.  Love you all!  Dig in!
