Good Morning “Those Who Seek Gods Voice… The ONLY Way!” Today we are in 1 Samuel 28.
Saul is horrified at the size of the Philistine army about to wage attack on Israel. So much so, that he does something outside of his nature. He inquires of God. Gods already turned from Saul… so now what? Anytime we find God silent it ought to compel us to consider possible unrepentant sin - and repent. Saul thinks he needs a medium, or a spiritualist. Perhaps then he could get an answer from Samuel who’s already passed away.
Theres a problem though… In a past rare moment of obedience Saul did what God said, and rid the nation of all mediums and spiritualists. He sends his men to search for one - perhaps he missed one. His men locate a witch, a medium in Endor.
Saul disguises himself so she will perform her magic and asks her to bring up Samuel. Before she can even start her typical incantations she sees a “divine being” come up from the earth. The original word is “Elohim” (God or god). God raises Samuel himself and he’s ticked Saul is disturbing him. She had nothing to do with it. In fact with an uncharacteristic reaction she’s horrified. This was NOT the way this typically went. This was NOT her familiar spirit. She was NEVER capable of “bringing up” the dead - only communicating with evil spirits (Demons).
Let’s be crystal clear ONLY GOD has the power to raise the dead. Any apparent ability for anyone else to do so is simply parlor tricks or demonic interaction.
Saul gets his answer. God through Samuel and this interaction makes it clear to Saul… he’s finished.
The reason for Saul’s less than appealing demise - his rejection of God in the first place. This whole scene paints an accurate picture of most of Saul’s life… seeking a divine answer from a witch. Do you see the irony? Oh that we would seek Him only! How do we do that? The ONLY way! “”Jesus said, “I Am The Way, The Truth and The Life. No one comes to the Father but through Me.” John 14:6.
Seek Him always! But do it the Right Way - The Only Way! Love you all! Dig in!
